Keynote @ IEEE ICHMS

On September 10th, Raimund Dachselt gave a keynote speech at the 2021 IEEE International Conference on Human-Machine Systems (ICHMS). The invited talk on the topic „Interactive Spaces for Ubiquitous Data – A Mobile Visualization Perspective“ was closing the three-day hybrid conference, which was approaching human-centered systems for our digital world from different perspectives including HCI, cognitive ergonomics, and engineering. In the talk, Raimund introduced promising mobile computing environments for future data visualization and outlined research challenges of interactive spaces as interfaces for ubiquitous data visualization.

PhD Defense of Tom Horak

On July 7, 2021, Tom Horak successfully defended his PhD thesis. His topic Visual Data Analysis in Device Ecologies addresses the question, how multiple co-located computing devices can be used in synergistic combination for facilitating visual data exploration and analysis. Within his research, Tom Horak connected in innovative ways research from human-computer interaction and information visualization and proposed novel approaches. We are delighted that Jo Vermeulen from Autodesk Research (Toronto) agreed to serve as external reviewer for this thesis. After his great defense, the entire Interactive Media Lab and further guests came together to celebrate in a great restaurant with a gorgeous view on the Elbe river.

We congratulate Tom Horak on his remarkable dissertation and wish him all the best for the future.

Five Full Papers at CHI 2021

We are happy to announce that five full papers with co-authors from our lab have been accepted at ACM CHI 2021! Three of these papers are projects of our group, with two more papers being co-authored in cooperation with international researchers around the world. We are happy to contribute to the community of the largest and most important conference in the field of human-computer interaction. All papers will be presented online at the conference May 8-13. Further information, as well as short videos and the already-available author-versions of the papers can be found on their respective project pages.
